International Scholarly Conference Dedicated to Prof. Tevlin’s 90th Anniversary

15 September 2021 |

On 1 October 2021, Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory, together with the Association of Folk and Choral Groups of Russia’s Music Association and the Foundation for Development of Creative Initiatives, is holding the International Scholarly and Practical Conference “Ways of Today’s Choral Culture Development: Theory, Performance, Teaching,” dedicated to the 90th anniversary of Prof. Boris Tevlin, People’s Artist of Russia and one of the outstanding contemporary choral conductors.

Prof. Alexander Solovyev, Artistic Director of Moscow State Conservatory Chamber Choir, who initiated this forum, noted: “It is no coincidence that our institution pays tribute to the memory of Boris Tevlin (1931–2012), the founder of both the Moscow Conservatory Chamber Choir (1995) and the Department of Contemporary Art of Choral Performance (2011), during the Conservatory’s 155th anniversary.”

The conference is aimed to introduce the panorama of genres, compositional techniques and stylistic trends within the choral culture of today, relating these phenomena to Prof. Tevlin’s personality, who managed to engender the students’ interest in contemporary music. As a result, many of his students have become leading conductors, choir directors and teachers, who develop their teacher’s artistic principles and continue the traditions he established both in Russia and abroad.

The conference will include a discussion of the most important and topical phenomena of today’s choral culture in the aspects of its performance, theory and history, as well as of Prof. Tevlin’s scholarly, teaching and performing heritage.

The conference is coordinated by Prof. Evgenia Krivitskaia, D.A.
