Annex of the Year 2024 to Regulations on Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory’s International Alexander Goedicke Organ Competition

A.1. General Provisions

A.1.1. The full official name of the competition is Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory’s Seventh International Alexander Goedicke Organ Competition (hereinafter to be referred to, respectively, as
“the 7th Goedicke Competition” and “the Conservatory”).

A.1.3. The dates of holding the 7th Goedicke Competition are 3–12 September 2024.

A.1.4. The Program of the 7th Goedicke Competition

Round One

On the organ in the Conservatory’s Small Hall:

  • (1) One of the following pieces by J. S. Bach (optionally):
    • (a) any of the trio-sonatas, BWV 525–530
    • (b) one of the three versions of the Choral Prelude «Allein Gott in der Höh sei Ehr»: BWV 662, 663
      or 664
  • (2) One of the following pieces (optionally):
    • (a) Nicolaus Bruhns. The Great Prelude in E minor
    • (b) Dietrich Buxtehude. Prelude and in E minor, BuxWV 142
  • (3) Robert Schumann. Fugue in B-flat major from Sechs Fugen über den Namen: Bach, op. 60 no. 1

Round Two

On the organ in the Conservatory’s Small Hall:

  • (1) Any of the toccatas by J. S. Bach (optionally) — except for Toccata in D minor, BVW 565
  • (2) One of the following sonatas by Felix Mendelssohn (optionally):
    • (a) in A major, op. 65 no. 3
    • (b) in D major, op. 65 no. 5
  • (3) Dmitry Shostakovich. Passacaglia from Katerina Izmaylova
  • (4) Free program for 20 minutes maximum — except for transcriptions and pieces performed in Round One. Competitors’ own compositions may be performed.

On the organ in the Conservatory’s Great Hall:

  • (5) One of the following Preludes and Fugues by Alexander Goedicke (optionally):
    • (a) in C minor, op. 34 no. 1
    • (b) in E-flat major, op. 34 no. 2
  • (6) César Franck. Pièce héroïque in B minor, FWV 37
  • (7) One of the following pieces (optionally):
    • (a) Charles-Marie Widor. Symphonie no. 8 in B major, op. 42 no. 4: Finale
    • (b) Louis Vierne. Symphonie no. 4 in G minor, op. 32: Finale

Round Three

On the organ in the Conservatory’s Great Hall:

  • (1) An obligatory piece to be published on the Conservatory’s official website not later than two weeks before the beginning of the 7th Goedicke Competition.
  • (2) Francis Poulenc. Concerto pour orgue, cordes et timbales, FP 93

A.2. Prizes of the 7th Goedicke Competition

A.2.1. The Organizing Committee has established the following five prizes:

  • (1) First Prize: 200,000 (two hundred thousand) rubles;
  • (2) Second Prize: 150,000 (one hundred and fifty thousand) rubles;
  • (3) Third Prize: 100,000 (one hundred thousand) rubles;
  • (4) two diplomas of 40,000 (forty thousand) rubles each.

A.3. The Jury of the 7th Goedicke Competition

The list of jury members will be announced later.

A.4. Procedure of Holding the 7th Goedicke Competition

A.4.3. The 7th Goedicke Competition consists of three rounds.

  • A.4.3.1. Round One will be held in the Conservatory’s Small Hall on 5–6 September 2024 at 10:00.
  • A.4.3.2. Round Two will be held:
    • (1) in the Conservatory’s Small Hall on 8 September 2024 at 10:00;
    • (2) in the Conservatory’s Great Hall on 10 September 2024 at 10:00.
  • A.4.3.3. Round Three will be held in the Conservatory’s Great Hall on 12 September 2024 at 10:00.
  • A.4.3.4. The Laureates’ Award Ceremony and the Final Concert will be held in the Conservatory’s Great Hall
    on 12 September 2024 at 19:00.

A.4.4. Information on the time and venue of the competitors’ Initial Meeting will be announced later.

A.5. Submission of the Application and the Documents

A.5.1. In order to participate in the 7th Goedicke Competition, every applicant must fill out an online application.

A.5.3. The deadline for submitting the online application and the documents in order to participate
in the 7th Goedicke Competition is 4 August 2024.

A.6. Financial Terms

A.6.2. An amount of the registration fee for participation in the 7th Goedicke Competition is (optionally):

  • 3000 (three thousand) Russian rubles
  • 236 (two hundred and thirty-six) Chinese yuans
  • 33 (thirty-three) US dollars
  • 31 (thirty-one) euros.
