Annex of the Year 2025 to the Regulations on Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory’s International Competition of Performers on Wind and Percussion Instruments
A.1. General Provisions
A.1.1. The full official name of the competition is The Sixteenth Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory’s International Competition of Performers on Wind and Percussion Instruments; hereinafter to be referred to as “the 16th Wind/Percussion Competition” (briefly: “the 16th WPC”).
A.1.3. The dates of holding the 16th Wind/Percussion Competition are from 27 October to 1 November 2025 inclusive.
A.1.4. The 16th Wind/Percussion Competition will be held for the following two categories:
- (1) Bassoon;
- (2) Tenor trombone.
A.1.5. The Program of the 16th Wind/Percussion Competition
All pieces, in both categories, may be performed from music.

A.1.5.1. Category Bassoon
Round One — two pieces:
1. Johann Christian Bach. Concerto in B-flat major for bassoon and chamber orchestra (T 288/1): 1st movement. Edition and arrangement for bassoon and piano by Johannes Wojciechowski.
2. One piece by the competitor’s choice:
- • Yuri Kasparov. Sonata infernale for solo bassoon (1989)
- • Tatiana Smirnova. Arabesques for solo bassoon (1984)
Round Two — three pieces:
1. Carl Maria von Weber. Andante und Rondo ungarese in C minor for solo viola, op. 35.
Version for bassoon and orchestra arranged for bassoon and piano.
2. Ivan Kostlan. Any of the four Concert Etudes for bassoon and piano — by the competitor’s choice.
3. A piece for solo bassoon that has won at the 16th Composers’ Competition for the 16th WPC.
The music will be published later.
Round Three:
Alexander Chaykovsky. Concerto for bassoon and orchestra (1981)
A.1.5.2. Category Tenor trombone
Round One — two pieces:
1. Henri Dutilleux. Choral, cadence et fugato pour trombone et piano (1950)
2. One piece by the competitor’s choice:
- • Giovanni-Battista Pergolesi. Sinfonia in F major for cello and basso continuo.
Ralph Sauer’s version for trombone and piano - • Gottfried Finger (?1660 — 1730). Sonata in E-flat major for violin, viol da gamba and basso continuo (RI213). Arrangement for alto (or tenor) trombone and string orchestra by Miloslav Heida & Jaroslav Maštalíř. Version for trombone and piano
Round Two — three pieces:
1. One piece by the competitor’s choice:
- • Guy Ropartz. Pièce pour trombone et piano (1908)
- • Joseph Jongen (1873–1953). Aria et Polonaise pour trombone et piano, op. 128
2. One piece by the competitor’s choice:
- • Kazimierz Serocki. Sonatina for trombone and piano (1955)
- • Stjepan Šulek. Sonata ‘Vox Gabrieli’ for trombone and piano (1973)
- • Yevgheny Botyarov (1935–2010). Sonatina for trombone and piano
3. A piece for solo tenor trombone that has won at the 16th Composers’ Competition for the 16th WPC.
The music will be published later.
Round Three — two pieces:
1. Georg Christoph Wagenseil. Concerto in E-flat major for alto trombone and chamber orchestra.
Edition by Paul Angerer (1990). The piece may also be performed on the tenor trombone.
2. One piece by the competitor’s choice:
- • Jan Koetsier. Concertino for trombone and chamber orchestra (1982)
- • Lars-Erik Larsson. Concertino for trombone and chamber orchestra (1937)
A.2. Prizes of the 16th Wind/Percussion Competition
The Organizing Committee shall announce six monetary prizes for the laureates — three ones per each category:
- (1–2) First Prize of 200,000 (two hundred thousand) rubles each;
- (3–4) Second Prize of 100,000 (one hundred thousand) rubles each;
- (5–6) Third Prize of 75,000 (seventy-five thousand) rubles each.

A.4. Procedure for Holding the 16th Wind/Percussion Competition
A.4.3. The 16th Wind/Percussion Competition of the year 2025 consists of three rounds:
Opening Ceremony:
October 27, Monday, the Rachmaninoff Hall, 19:00
Round One — October 28, Tuesday, from 10:00:
- • the Rachmaninoff Hall: Bassoon
- • the Small Hall: Tenor trombone
Round Two, from 10:00:
- • October 29, Wednesday, the Rachmaninoff Hall: Bassoon
- • October 30, Thursday, the Small Hall: Tenor trombone
The finalists’ rehearsals with the orchestra, workshops:
October 31, Friday
Round Three — November 1, Saturday, the Great Hall:
- • 10:00: Tenor trombone
- • 14:00: Bassoon
A.4.4. The Initial Meeting, the drawing of lots and the registration fee payment (according to the Organizing Committee’s instruction) will be held on 27 October 2025 in Room 210 of the Great Hall Building:
- • for the Category Bassoon — at 12:00;
- • for the Category Tenor trombone — at 14:00.
A.4.8. The award ceremony and the final concert of the 16th Wind/Percussion Competition will take place
on 1 November 2025 at 19:00 in the Great Hall.
A.5. Submission of the Application and the Documents
A.5.1. In order to participate in the 16th Wind/Percussion Competition, every applicant must fill out his/her
online application:

A.5.5. The deadline for submitting the online application and the documents in order to participate
in the 16th Wind/Percussion Competition is 5 October 2025.
A.6. Financial Term
A.6.2. An amount of the registration fee for participation in the 16th Wind/Percussion Competition is
3000 (three thousand) Russian rubles.
