Dear colleagues!

We are happy to invite you to participate in the Sixth Congress of Russia’s Society for Theory of Music: “Moscow Conservatory and Musicology Today.”

The 160th anniversary of the Moscow Conservatory allows us to highlight the role of Russia’s leading music university in the development of music scholarship once again, both yesterday and today. It is intended
to emphasize the specificity of contemporary musicology and the position of Russian music scholarship, as well as the research activities of the Moscow Conservatory within it.

The interconnection between musicology in Russia and worldwide is much more clearly evident following
the participation of our Society for Theory of Music in EuroMAC-10 at the Moscow Conservatory in 2021. It is proposed that the dialogue between various musicological schools in Russia and abroad be continued.

The role of the Moscow Conservatory and other Russia’s scholarly institutions is going to be discussed in viewpoint of developing the following positions:

  • 1) new directions in the evolvement of the structure of scholarly music studies;

  • 2) general theories of musicology within the Russian context;

  • 3) new music and its representation in musicological research;

  • 4) beyond music and musicology: multimedia and the latest forms of art synthesis;

  • 5) musicology – mathematics – natural sciences;

  • 6) musicology – aesthetics – philosophy – theory and history of culture;

  • 7) contemporary approaches to the studies of the past;

  • 8) recent approaches to the studies of the ethnic diversity of music cultures;

  • 9) the potential of modern technology and AI in musicological research.
