Conditions
The Fourth International Scriabin Piano Competition is open to pianists born after January 25, 1976.
- The Competition consists of four rounds: three solo recitals and a final performance with orchestral accompaniment. All rounds are open to the public. Applicants shall perform all compositions from memory.
- Half of the participants shall advance to the second round, six of whom shall advance to the final round.
- The order of performances shall be determined by drawing lots, and will remain in effect until the end of the final round. All participants must be present at the drawing, which will take place on the eve of the first day of the Competition. The drawing will be followed by an informational meeting that is compulsory for all participants.
- All participants must remain in Moscow during their participation in the Competition.
- Winners of the Competition are obligated to perform in the closing concert of the Competition without financial compensation.
- Participants of the Competition will not receive financial compensation for their appearances during the Competition, nor will they receive financial compensation for any use of recordings or video broadcasts of their appearances. The organisers of the Competition will retain the rights to all audio and video recordings of the Competition proceedings, as well as the right to broadcast them.
The Competition will open on January 25, 2008.
The closing concert and award ceremony will take place on February 4, 2008.
Prizes
The following prizes have been established by the Organising Committee:
First prize – $10.000 and a concert tour in Russia and abroad
Second prize – $5.000
Third prize – $3.000
Three awards of $1.000 each will be given to the finalists of the solo final round. They will also receive diplomas as prizewinners of the Competition.
- The Jury has the option to divide the prizes between performers ex-aequo or to declare void any of them.
- The decisions of the Jury are final and not subject to any review.
- The prize money to the Competition laureates will be paid in Russian rubles equivalent in accordance with the exchange rate of the Central Bank of Russia on the date of payment with the income tax deduction.
- In the event of a controversy over the present Rules for the International Scriabin Piano Competition, the Russian version will be considered as the only valid one.
- The application fee is 1.500 Russian rubles for residents of CIS countries and US $100 for all others. The application fee is nonrefundable.
Application procedure
- To take part in the qualifying round of the Competition, applicants must complete and submit the attached application. Applications must have been postmarked by October 15, 2007 to be considered.

The application must include:
- Two 13x18 cm (5x7 ins) and one 5x6 cm (2x2.3 ins) glossy photographs. The applicant’s first and last name should be written on the back of the photographs. Please do not attach the photographs using pins or staples.
- A photocopy of the applicant’s passport or another official form of identification that confirms the applicant’s date of birth.
- Two letters of recommendation from recognised musicians. The letters must include the author’s address, contact telephone, and e-mail address.
- A videotape meeting the following requirements:
- The recording must be of excellent, preferably professional quality
- recording duration shall be up to 35 minutes in length
- the recording must contain only the works for solo piano from the program of competition
- editing the video recording in any way is forbidden
- the videotape should be in VHS format, recorded in PAL/SECAM or NTSC systems
- the recording should be clearly labelled, bearing the applicant’s first and last names, the titles of the compositions in the order they were recorded, exact duration of each work, and the date when the videotape was recorded
- The decision regarding the admission to participation in the Competition shall be drawn on the basis of the videotaped submissions. The organising committee shall inform the applicants about this decision not later than November 15, 2007.
All applicants who are chosen to appear at the Competition will receive an official invitation from the organisers of the Competition, indicating the date on that they should arrive in Moscow.
- Should an applicant withdraw from the Competition, the documents, videotape, and registration fee shall not be returned
Financial terms
- Participants in the Competition must arrive in Moscow according to the dates indicated by the organisers of the Competition in the official invitation.
- Once a foreign participant receives an official invitation to appear, he/she should apply to a Russian consulate for a visa.
- The participants will be accommodated at the Moscow Conservatory dormitory. The trip to Moscow and return will be paid by the participants. The Moscow Conservatory will offer practicing facilities free of charge.
- The Organizing Committee will pay for accommodation and meals of participants, who are admitted into the third round. Participants not admitted into the second and third round as well as accompanying persons may stay in Moscow until the end of the Competition at their own expense.
- Participants will have access to practice rooms for at least 3 hours per day, and have the right to one rehearsal in the performance hall before each round.
- The organizers of the Competition will not provide any form of insurance to the participants.
- Signed applications for consideration represents the applicant’s acceptance of all conditions listed in this document.

Jury
Under the chairmanship of the President of International Scriabin Society, Professor of Moscow Conservatory Mikhail S. Voskresensky the jury will consist of nine world`s leading musicians of different countries.
The jury members may not have their pupils as participants. They must agree with this rule in writing before the beginning of the Competition.

Round I (not more than 30 minutes, pauses included) January 26, 27, 28. Small hall of Conservatory
- 2 virtuoso studies – one by Chopin, one by Scriabin
- one from the early sonatas by Scriabin (1-4) or Fantasy op. 28
- 2 mazurkas or one nocturne by Chopin
Round II (not more than 45 minutes, pauses included) January 29, 30. Small hall of Conservatory
- one form the late sonatas by Scriabin (6-10)
- one or several compositions from one Opus by Scriabin (but not a sonata)
- one or several compositions by Taneev, Medtner, Stanchinsky, Myaskovsky, Feinberg, Golubev or An. Alexandrov (not more than 15 minutes)
- one ballad or fantasy or barcarole by Chopin, or Liszt "Benediction de Dieu dans la Solitude" or two Petrarka`s sonnets or "Vallee d’Obermann" or "Funerailles"
Round III (not more than 50 minutes, pauses included) February 1. Great hall of Conservatory
- Scriabin: Poeme tragique, op. 34 (compulsory piece)
- any compositions by Scriabin that were not performed in the previous rounds
- the romantic work of world classical repertoire not longer than 30 minutes (not by a Russian composer)
