The regulations regarding this competition
Establishing and executing the First International N. Y. Myaskovsky Competition of Young Composers has become an important event in the history of the Moscow Conservatory, for the competition will reveal many years of work by the Composition Faculty at a high international standard for the first time.
Such a competition for composers is rare, compared to the number of competitions available for performers, which occur on a regular basis throughout Europe and Russia. This event provides an opportunity to young composers to show off their creative skills in the process of becoming professionals.
Our composers, who win at many international composer competitions, is testament to their strong academic training. But such competitions are very frequent, and the composition faculty at the Moscow Conservatory feels that the time is right to hold such an event.
The name of Nikolay Yakovlevich Myaskovsky has been attached to this International Competition of Young Composers. This outstanding composer is one of founders of a school for composers in Moscow. The year 2009 will celebrate the 80th birth-year of Edison Vasilevich Denisov, and it is to his memory that this first competition has been dedicated.
