Curriculum Vitae:
Konstantin Zenkin was born in Moscow. He studied piano at the Moscow Conservatory Central Music school and after completion of the full course became a student of the same conservatory, piano faculty. In 1981 he graduated cum laude at the piano faculty (class of E. Malinin). In 1983 he also graduated at Musicology and Composition faculty (E. Tsareva’s class), cum laude also.
In 1987 he defended the thesis and became Candidate of Art Criticism, whose topic was "Chopin’s piano miniature and its place in the development of history and art" (head – E. Tsareva, Leningrad conservatory).
In 1996 K. Zenkin got the title of Grand Doctor in Art for his doctoral dissertation "Piano miniature and some trends of music romanticism".
In 2001 he received scholarship of the Musicology Institute of Vienna university, where he studied and worked with professor G. Gruber.
In 2009 K. Zenkin became Vice Rector for Education of the Moscow Conservatory.
Teaching: From 1982 till 2002 K. Zenkin worked as a teacher at the Moscow Conservatory Central music school.
From 1990 till now he has been teaching at the Moscow Conservatory. In 1993 he was entitled senior lecture, in 1995 he became associate professor and in 2000 he was entitled full professor.
In 2003 he offered a special course "Symphonism in European music of the 18-20th centuries", in 2004 and 2005 he introduced another course "Avant-garde in foreign music of the 20th century. History, esthetics and artistic phenomena" (for the faculty of improvement of professional skills).
Master-classes and various courses: He held various lectures and master-classes both in Russia and in near-abroad devoted to different matters of contemporary art.
Alumni: Two dissertations has been defended with him as a mentor at the Moscow Conservatory (by J. Monastyrshina and A. Kostennikov) and quite a lot of students’ final works.
Publications: His research interests are focused mainly around music history in general, history of European music of the latest period, music philosophy and history of piano performance.
