The Moscow P. I. Tchaikovsky Conservatory announces “The Sixth International Competition of the Moscow Conservatory for Winds and Percussion” that will be held on 1st — 8th November 2014 in categories “Bassoon” and “Tenor trombone”.
The Competition is to be held once a year in two out of ten categories — nine wind ones and one percussion. So, each category takes part in the Competition once in five years:

  • 2014 / bassoon, tenor trombone
  • 2015 / oboe, French horn
  • 2016 / clarinet, trumpet
  • 2017 / flute, tuba
  • 2018 / percussion, woodwind quintet

Aims of the Competition

  1. To raise prestige of the winds and percussion instruments;
  2. To make playing wind instruments more attractive to the wide audience
  3. To encourage young people to play wind and percussion instruments
  4. To pay more attention to professional training of musicians who perform on winds and percussion
  5. To search for the most talented young musicians, to support and stimulate their professional skill
  6. To provide the conditions for artistic cultural exchange, to enhance the artistic development and to improve the professional skills of the participants of the Competition

Applications

The Competition is open to participants of all nationalities born between November 2nd, 1981 and November 1st, 1998
The winners of any international or national competitions are not exempted from participation in the First Round
The deadline for applications is extended to September 20th, 2014
The filled-out application form must be supplemented with the scans of the following documents:

  • passport pages with photo and bearer signature (participants from Russia should attach also the page with the residence registration)
  • document or diploma proving contestant's musical education level (copy)
  • a short curriculum vitae – date and place of birth, educational institution (actual or graduated), year of studies, name of the teachers, previous competitions (year, country, city and award), any other important information
  • one digital portrait-type professional photo – not less than 2MB (resolution 300 dpi, accepted formats – jpg, bmp, tiff, png)
  • ITIN (Individual Tax Identification Number) and PIC (Pension Insurance Certificate) – required from Russian participants only
  • a receipt of the paid entrance fee
  • a Permission for personal data processing (a scanned document in a free mode with personal signature)
    All the documents and photos should be sent by e-mail: art-department@mail.ru.
    No changes to the program indicated in the form are allowed after the deadline for the applications.
    The Organizing Committee has the right to reject the improper or incomplete applications.
  • a non-refundable application fee is:

The procedure

  1. The auditions are held publicly, consist of three rounds and take place at the Rachmaninov (I and II Rounds) and Great (Final Round) Halls of the Moscow Conservatory.
  2. The order of the participants’ performances will be defined by draw of lots and remain valid through all the competition. The participants are required to attend the drawing of lots procedure and the Informational meeting on November 1st, 2014.
  3. The order within the program is on contestants choice.
  4. A rehearsal prior to each Round is reserved for each contestant.
  5. A need of an accompanist granted by the Moscow Conservatory should be indicated in the Application form. Accompanists will be granted by the Organizing Committee free of charge.
  6. Jury has the right to shorten or stop the contestant performance if there is a consent of all the members of the jury.
  7. Not more than 50% of the submitted participants will be allowed to the second round. Not more than 5 (five) participants will be allowed to the final round.
  8. After the second round the Jury decides on the award for the best accompanist of the Competition – one for each category.
  9. The participants of the Final Round will be provided with a rehearsal with the orchestra
  10. The results will be announced immediately after each round.

Awards

  1. The Organizing Committee of the Competition announces the following prizes for both categories:
    First prize — 150 000 rubles and the title of the Laureate of the Competition
    Second prize — 100 000 rubles and the title of the Laureate of the Competition
    Third prize — 50 000 rubles and the title of the Laureate of the Competition
  2. All monetary prizes will be paid in Russian Rubles withholding the taxes applicable on the territory of the Russian Federation.
  3. Special prize in Bassoon category: a Bassoon granted by Bernd Moosmann Company
    Special prize in Tenor Trombone category: a Tenor Trombone Conn 36H manufactured by Conn Selmer Company

    Additional special prizes may be awarded with the approval of the Organizing Committee to the participants of the second and third rounds by governmental, non-governmental or commercial organizations, foundations, artistic unions, mass media and private individuals.

  4. The Jury has the right:
    - not to award all the prizes;
    - to share the awards among the participants of the third round except the first prize;
  5. The decisions of the Jury are final and cannot be contested.
  6. The best accompanists in each category will receive a diploma and a money prize of 50000 Russian Rubles.

Special conditions

  1. The participants of the Competition do not receive any fee for their performance at the Competition or for any later utilization of the recordings and broadcasts of these performances.
  2. The Organizing Committee of the Competition keeps the exclusive rights on the distribution of audio and video records and broadcasts of the Competition’s auditions and the final concert of the Competition’s laureates.
  3. The Laureates of the Competition must perform free of charge at the final concert of the Competition.
  4. The participants of the Competition will be provided with practice auditoriums of the Moscow Conservatory in established order free of charge.
  5. The Organizing Committee of the Competition will support the participants in obtaining the printed music of the compositions which are indicated in the mandatory program of the Competition.
  6. The submission of the application will mean unconditional acceptance of all the above-listed terms and conditions.
  7. In case of any arguments concerning the interpretation of present terms and conditions of the Competition, the Russian version of the text is to be considered the only correct one.
