Academic board is a delegation part of the Moscow conservatory’s collective direction. It consists of 84 members and includes the full Administration, deans of departments and heads of chairs, representatives of all departments and inter-department chairs, directors of the Moscow conservatory’s Central School of Music and College of Music — with a large number of widely known musicians and figures of the Russian musical culture and science.
Collegial direction is one of the traditions of the Moscow conservatory. At the very moment of its foundation the Professor’s board was established which later turned into the Artistic board. Since that times the main functions of the Board almost did not change — it accepts all decisions regarding the artistic, teaching and economy life of the Conservatory.
The Board also tutors the Conservatory’s buildings reconstruction process, improving of its structure, concert and repertoire strategy in the Conservatory’s halls, takes part in the arrangements for the Tchaikovsky International Competition etc. It also follows a tradition to award the Honoured Professorship of the Conservatory: Alfred Schnittke, Mikhail Pletnev, Mstislav Rostropovitch, Rodion Shchedrin, Andrey Eshpay and Krzysztof Penderecki were awarded this professorship.
