The Competition is held in Hall named after N. Myaskovsky of the Moscow Conservatory and Rachmaninov Hall of the Moscow Conservatory


Aims of the Competition

  • Search for the most talented young composers, support and stimulate their professional skill
  • Popularization of modern academic music;
  • Development of national music education;
  • The statement of a high professional lath for composers within modern musical process;
  • Strengthening of creative communications between musical high schools of Russia and other countries;
  • Organizing of creative contacts between composers and performers;
  • Providing favorable conditions for interaction of composers and an audience;
  • Strengthening of the status of the Moscow state P.I. Tchaikovsky conservatory as musical European centre.

The judge, who is or ever was participant's teacher, is not allowed to estimate his work.


Condition of the Competition

Nomination of the Competition is «Piece for a string quartet» (the first and the second violins, cello and alto) 

Only pieces which hasn’t been published and officially performed before can be submitted for the Competition. Duration of a piece shouldn't be from 10 till 20 minutes.

Only one piece in any form according to the participant's choice can be submitted by participant for the Competition.

Participants of the Second (final) round are provided with residing from February, 20th, till February, 21st, 2012. Participants pay for travel expenses and food themselves.

Requirements to participants

Only professional composers, who are not elder than 35 years old, can take part at the Competition.

Laureates and winners of the First International Competition for young composers are not allowed to take part at the current Competition.

 Requirements to scores for the Competition

Scores and parts for all instruments of a string quartet should be sent together with documents for participation both printed and on CD in PDF- files. Participant should invent a password and write it and a name of a piece on CD, that contains scores and parts.

 The printed scores and parties should be two-sided, stitched; should have mirror margins. Documents should be typed in Times New Roman, not less than 14 size.

If scores and/or parts don't satisfy the requirements, they will not be accepted for the Competition.

Scores, parties, CDs containing the scores and parties should not contain the personal information of participant. The identifier of the participant is a password which should be invented by participant.

Scores, parties and CD should be sealed in an envelope separately from the other documents. The envelop, that contains scores, parties and CD, should be marked with the password only.


Procedure and terms of addressing application

Entrance fee

The entrance fee is 1500 (one thousand five hundred) rubles for participants from Russia and the countries of the CIS and $100 (one hundred) USA dollars or 80 (eighty) EURO for participants from all other countries. The entrance fee should be transferred on the account of Moscow State P. I. Tchaikovsky Conservatory.

Documents for participation

  • Score and parts that satisfy the requirements.
  • The filled application form for participation. One monochrome photo 13х18 sm and biography on CD separately from CD with score and parts (for a booklet);
  • Passport copy (for citizens of Russia — with registration), or other document proving the identity;
  • Copy of document or diploma about musical education;
  • Copy of the Taxpayer’s Identification Number (INN) and the Pension Insurance Certificate (for citizens of Russian Federation);
  • Permission for using participant’s personal information.

Terms of addressing of the application

The application for participation in the Competition should be delivered to Organizing committee not later than January, 15, 2012.

The Organizing committee of Competition has the right to reject the applications if they don't satisfy to requirements of Regulations of The Competition or if they arrive later, than on January, 15, 2012.


Procedure of the Competition

Competition includes two rounds.

The first round

The first round is held from January, 16, 2012 till February, 2, 2012 and includes studying of the participants' scores by judges. This round is anonymous.

The list of participants of the First round as a list of identification passwords will be published on the web-site of the Moscow state P.I. Tchaikovsky conservatory not later January, 16, 2012.

The list of participants who admit for participating in the Second round will be published as a list of identification passwords not later February, 1, 2012. The admitted participants have to attend the Second round.

8 or less participants will be admitted to the Second round as a result of studying of scores.

The final concert of winners of the Competition will take place on February, 21st, 2012 in Rachmaninov Hall of the Moscow Conservatory.

The second round

The Second round is held on February, 20, 2012 in Hall named after N. Myaskovsky of the Moscow Conservatory as a public concert.

Participants’ pieces will be performed by string quartets. Names of musicians of quartets will be published on the web-site of the Moscow state P.I. Tchaikovsky conservatory not later February, 1, 2012.

The final concert of the laureates of the Competition will be held February 21, 2012 in the Rachmaninov Hall of Moscow Conservatory.


The Prizes

The Awards

  • 1 award — 100 000 rubles
  • 2 award — 80 000 rubles
  • 3 award — 60 000 rubles
  • 4 award — 40 000 rubles
  • Two diplomas in 25 000 rubles for each one

The jury has right to award special prizes; to divide awards between participants; to award not all diplomas and awards; not to award the first award.

All monetary awards are paid in rubles and taxed according to tax laws of the Russian Federation.
